BRING IN THE SPRING WITH A THAI MASSAGE CLEANSE!

One of the most popular as well as therapeutic treatments that we offer at Fabriq Spa is the Thai Massage—also known as the Thai-Yoga Massage. This ancient form of bodywork is my personal favorite. Thai Massage can be traced back over 2,500 years to India and is essentially a synthesis of Yoga, Ayurveda (Eastern Science Medicine), and Meditation. The founding father of Thai Massage, Jivaka Komarabhacca was a celebrated yogi and doctor in the ancient Indian healing tradition of Ayurveda. He was also venerated as the source of Ayurvedic practices in Thailand. Recipients of a Thai Massage experience a treatment customized by their practitioner with a focus on mental state, energy levels, physical assessment, client’s history intake, and goals. We want you to leave not only feeling safely and properly stretched, but with an internal adjustment that creates more space and for you and your energy. Most clients leave feeling a balanced combination of energetic and physical well being—floating out the door and feeling “two inches taller.”

The massage is traditionally performed on a mat on the floor, but it has also been adapted for table work, as well as chair and other surfaces. When you receive a Thai Massage your treatment will include martial arts moves, rhythmic motion, palming and thumbing along energy lines, gentle stretching, breath work, and creating a slow, flowing “dance” around and with your body.

A Thai Massage session treats both physical ailments and energetic (emotional, mental, etc) levels. The massage improves circulation, vastly increasing range of motion in joints, relieving neuromuscular tension and spasms, aiding in the movement of the metabolism, boosting the immune system, inducing a calm mental state via the parasympathetic nervous system, and a lot more. This form of bodywork opens up blocked energy which alleviates common issues like headaches and migraines, lower back pain, arthritis, digestive difficulties, menstrual issues and, above all else, stress related conditions. Now more than ever, as spring approaches, your body needs to eliminate and squeeze out the damp, cold remnants of what has been a very wet winter.

During a Thai Massage treatment you will experience changes in several of your body’s systems—especially the skeletal, muscular, circulatory, and nervous systems. In the spirit of Metta (loving-kindness) and mindfulness of the sacred space created in a therapeutic session, your practitioner will create a safe, tranquil healing environment, nurturing the body and encouraging a peaceful body-mind. During a treatment, your practitioner will put you into Asanas (Postures) while you are in a passive state. Your body’s muscular information will inform your practitioner precautionary instructions on which postures to provide or avoid during a session. While your muscles are being stretched there is a huge activation of circulation in your blood. The mobilization of this importation body fluid increases muscular relaxation and elasticity and reduces the effects of adhesions (those bumpy knots you feel in your upper shoulders). Thai Massage also stimulates vascular changes, the mobilization of muscle compresses vessels, affecting the passage of blood and lymph to and from the heart and increasing the vascular flow. Stimulating the circulation of blood and lymph helps to eliminate toxins, reducing the risk of thrombosis, edema, and clotting in the vessels. Again, we are getting back to the idea of cleansing your body!

Thai Massage also improves and maintains the health and mobility of the spine. By stretching we are creating space between the vertebrae allowing the lymph, synovial, and cerebrospinal fluids to actively circulate, effectively “greasing” the joints and improving joint mobility. This kind of bodywork can correct skeletal problems and even reverse the processes of spinal degeneration diseases such as kyphosis, scoliosis, and lordosis.

Being a therapeutic based modality, this kind of bodywork is open to both the young and old, pregnant, healthy, sick, or dying. Every client I have had the pleasure of offering this therapeutic touch to is hooked after the first session. Give yourself the gift of more space and an internal rinse this season. I look forward to working with you on your journey of self care.

With Metta,

Lydia Mandell
